Nokia will be rivaled in Russia
Actuality August, 27, 2007.
At the beginning of the next month the Chinese company Huawei enters the Russian market of cell phones. come into the market Sale will enter operated 3G-phones. With such models (the sale of operated phones only) the company works in the whole world: a contract is made with a cell operator, and under its name a telephone is produced which is for sale only together with the contract of this operator.
There were previous attempts to sell operated phones in Russia, but the result can not be called successful. From September the production of such phones will be renewed, but this time it will be 3G-phones. The director on the marketing communications of Huawei in Russia Irene Lanina considers that this time the company will succeed, because operators will be able to promote additional services, selling 3G-phones Huawei under its brand and upgrading firmware before the sale. As additional services there will be, for example, cell television, games or Internet.
Operated telephones allow the networks to control model form-factor of the model, its interface and functions that gives the possilibility to approach the services to the users and work with more narrow groups. The most developed suppliers of phones do not make phones for operators. However, growing competition and pressure at the market make them be more flexible, and support the requirements of operators to back-coupling and user interfaces.
Today the license of the 3G services are owned by MTS, VimpelCom and Megaphone, but the Huawei company conducts active negotiations also with other leading Russian cell operators.
The market of operated phones is now occupied mainly by such suppliers, as HTC, Sharp, Panasonic, NEC and Sanyo. HTC produces phones on the orders of the largest networks, including Cingular, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile, Vodafone, O2 and Orange. Sharp, Panasonic, NEC and Sanyo mainly make telephones for NTT DoCoMo and KDDI. The last agreement of Vodafone with Chinese Huawei about delivery of operated 3G-phones to 21 country, where this operator works, must raise the growth of deliveries of such phones to the market. Growing demand for such kind of devices gives to the developing producers, as Huawei, very short road to the increase of their market shares.
«ABI Research expects that the market of operated telephones will grow for more than 127 million devices to 2011, that will result in growth of innovations from the side of new and existent producers, that will improve the impressions of users from products, and, undoubtedly, will turn into income for mobile operators».
If new operator 3G-phones from the Huawei are taken in Russia, the time will show. Now in Russia it is possible to buy only Nokia 3G-phones.
According to the assessment of content-providers and specialists on development of mobile services voiced at conference “The State and Prospects of Market of Mobile Content” the market will raise for $70 million during the current year.
In opinion of experts, mobile content in Russia has good potential of growth, which is now limited by low interest of users to different additional services offered by operators of mobile communication.
Presently, the amount of users of mobile content in the Russian Federation does not exceed 5 million persons. As experts consider, development of mobile networks of the third generation (3G) is able to change a situation.
