RUSAL launches full capacity of Khakas Aluminium Smelter ahead of schedule

The largest in the world
producer of aluminium and alumina, the Russian united company RUSAL, declared a full capacity launch of the Khakas Aluminium Smelter (KhAZ) ahead of schedule.
As the press-service of company reported, “the fourth and the last complex has been launched, the smelter capacity reached 300 000 tons, and the total volume of investments exceeded $750 millions”.
The Khakas Aluminium Smelter is the first enterprise in metallurgical industry of Russian Federation, have been constructed for the last 20 years.
The smelter was built in the record short term – for 25 months
- with the c onstructi on beginning up to the first metal tapping in December, 2006.
The KhAZ includes electrolytic, anode and foundry workshops, infrastructure and energy supply units.
The electrolytic workshop is equipped with 336 of company proprietary integrated RA-300 electrolytic cells.
The enterprise’s project capacity enables producing more than 800 tons of metal daily.
“The high level of production processes automation at KhAZ, where only 730 employees work, enables to attain very high productivity”, marked in the company.
During the smelter designing, special attention was paid to ecological aspect, therefore the enterprise is equipped with advanced dry gas purifying systems, enabling to absorb up to 99,5% emissions of fluoric compounds and electrolytic dust.
“The experience, gained during execution of world class project – construction of KhAZ, we successfully apply for the building of the Taishet and Boguchansk smelters”, director of the Engineering and Construction Division at UC RUSAL, Valery Matvienko, commented on the event.
The united company RUSAL is the leader of world aluminium industry. To the stake of company, where works about 100 000 employees, falls about 12% of world aluminium market and 15% of alumina. The products are exported to consumers in 70 countries of the world.
UC RUSAL was created in March, 2007 as a result of RUSAL, SUAL and aluminous assets of Swiss Company “Glencore” amalgamation.
