Russians give their money only to the state

Actuality August, 2007.
Russians show healthy conservatism in the choice of bank, as poll of independent company showed. Most Russians watchfully take the private banks: only one of ten would dare to entrust them the savings (9% of the general number of polled). The state banks are out of competition, 64% of Russians agree to deal with them. Foreign bank institutions also fill the citizens of Russia with misgivings: only 3% of respondents are ready to use their services.

Thus, it allows to judge about the high enough level of trust of population to the state on the whole, in spite of all pulled capers in the past in relation to the savings of citizens. Yet, in spite of high popularity of state banks, they are gradually supplanted from the top. If in November, 2006 their devoted audience appeared to be 72% of Russians, in July, 2007 there were only 64%. The general mistrust of Russians to the commercial banks looks a little strange against the background of the growing popularity of the consumer crediting.

thus, in this regard there are other opinions. For example, information of the alternative research of Russian state statistics, says that the 2nd bank on popularity is the private Bank Russian Standard.

The preferences of Russians as for banks straightly depend on social status, level of education and place of living. So, a middle age group (from 35 to 60 years) traditionally respects saving Bank and other state establishments (70%), and young people and retirees are not so exited (59–60%). In addition, among young people there are the most of those, who trust the Russian commercial banks (14–17%). Meantime among Russians of middle age there are only 5–7%, and among retirees — only 2%. The level of education also influences the attitude of respondents to commercial banks. The more educated they are the more loyal they are: from 4% among those whose education is lower than the secondary one, to 13% among undergraduates or graduates. Such tendency can be observed: the higher the profit of respondents is, the more they trust commercial banks. Among well-to-do citizens this index gets to 15%, while in the group of Russians with the profits under five thousand rubles ($200 a month) there are only 3–6%. And, finally, the advanced habitants of capitals in a greater degree tend towards banking with a commercial bank, than inhabitants of big and small towns (16% against 6–10%).

1 600 persons in 153 settlements in 46 regions, territories and republics of Russia took part in research. A statistical error does not exceed 3,4%
